Ballinasloe is a busy markey town, best known for its annual Ballinasloe October Horse Fair, which is the oldest horse fair in Europe. Equestrian activities are very popular all year round, and Ballinasloe's hinterland has many excellent equestrian centres. It is also well known for its course angling, and has recently opened a new state-of-the-art marina which allows access to the town for boats from the river Shannon.
