Portumna is a Georgian Town, in an idyllic setting on the banks of the river Shannon and at the head of Lough Derg. It's name comes from the Irish "Port Omna" meaning "the landing place of the Oak Tree". It's proximity to the water means that it is a busy centre for cabin cruisers and water sport enthusiasts. It is also an area rich in other activities such as golf, karting and equestrian activities.
