Dick Dowling's Bar
Tuam emigrant and Texas hero.
A famine emigrant from the Tuam area Dick Dowling became a publican in Houston, Texas, and a lieutenant in the confederate army. In charge of an artillery battery he successfuly defeated a superior force of the union army in the battle of Sabine Pass. A monument to his memory can be seen in Hermann Park, Houston, Texas.
